Welcome to Welink - Women's Electronic Link

Welink
is a friendly and supportive mailing list that allows women to chat electronically.

It was originally set up on International Women's Day in March 1997 as part of an action research project conducted by a team from Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia, from 1996 to 1997. This project aimed to enhance rural women's access to communication technologies such as the internet and email and to explore the impacts of these technologies in terms of personal, business and community development.

As access to the internet has grown, so too has the strength and diversity of the welink group.
Most welink members are women from various walks of life in rural, regional and urban areas of Australia.  A few also live in countries such as Canada, the United States of America and Ireland. Since the research project ended, the main purpose of the list is to maintain ongoing communication, networking and support among welink members. Some of these women have been members since its inception whilst others are new to the list.

This website has been designed to enable members to more easily share photos and other information such managing welink membership and use. We hope that welink members find it helpful and we welcome your feedback on this initial site so that it better meets your needs.
